What is Haiku? If you are unfamiliar with Haiku style poetry, it is a Japanese poem of seventeen syllables, in three lines of five, seven, and five, traditionally evoking images of the natural world. What is a syllable? It is a unit of pronunciation having one vowel sound, with or without surrounding consonants, forming the whole or a part of a word; for example, there are two syllables in water (wa-ter) and three in inferno (in-fer-no).
